I recently caught up with a local fashion stylist, Andrea Avila. After strolling around downtown, we had dinner by Union Station. We chatted about all things fashion, specifically how to dress chic for a holiday party. Enjoy!

What are your three best go-to tips when choosing a Holiday Party outfit?
First I would choose an outfit that’s stylish, comfortable and photographs well.
When choosing the perfect accessories, I prefer timeless, bold, colorful yet sleek accessories.
Lastly, I finish the outfit by finding the perfect shoe and clutch.
What are the three best style choices when accessorizing your holiday party outfit with leather?
I would say, a pop of color, great accessories and a statement outerwear.
Do you shop your closet? If so, what are your two best closet staples for holiday wear?
Yes, I do! I love a simple black dress and a faux-fur coat.
How do you decipher Holiday Party Dress codes — say the office holiday party versus cocktail versus semi formal?
For an office party, I would wear something a little more trendy, maybe leather pants, with a lace top, pearls and a bold red lip. For a semi-formal party, I would wear a dress — maybe something sequined.
Sparkles, black versus color, a dress versus pants — Are there rules for dressing for a holiday party?
I don’t believe in fashion rules. Personal style is a great way to show your personality.
What do you wear when you’re not sure what the dress code is?
A black dress, of course. I do believe you’ll always look perfect in a LBD (little black dress) and red lips.
